When COVID-19 was declared a pandemic on March 11, 2020, our lives changed in ways most of us never imagined. We’ve all been through so much since then that this day can seem like a lifetime ago. As we return to a sense of normalcy, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on our long and winding journey over the past year and half. These are 6 sentences you never thought you’d say before COVID-19:

“Is that an N95? “

Unless you were a seasoned healthcare worker, you probably never imagined you’d be up on this year’s line of PPE (let alone know what PPE means). Now, you’re perusing Etsy to find this must-have accessory!

“Did you hear what Dr. Fauci said today?”

Sure, Dr. Fauci has been renowned in infectious disease circles for decades. But who would’ve thought he’d become a household name or be made into a bobblehead!

“Did you get Pfizer or Moderna?”

If someone asked you that before COVID-19, you’d probably say, “What’s a Pfizer?”

“Let’s flatten the curve!”

Did I stumble into some kind of advanced geometry class?

“Are these allergies, COVID, or flu?”

It’s like the world’s worst game show, and all the prizes are bad. This season there’s a new twist! As people spend more time indoors this winter and mask fatigue sets in, the flu could come back with a vengeance. This is not to say you should stop living your life, but taking precautions such as wearing masks indoors, avoiding crowds, and staying home when you’re not feeling well will help keep us safe.

Have you heard that new song about handwashing?! It’s so catchy!

It may seem like old news, but just last year, this song sung by Vietnamese pop stars Min and Erik was taking the internet by storm! Who says they don’t make good pop music anymore?
