Monkeypox Case Rates Fall in the United States Following mid-August Peak

The rate of new Monkeypox cases has declined from the peak in mid-August. This is welcome news. At the same time, public health leaders warn that the threat from Monkeypox is not over and have called for additional funding to support response efforts. Public health experts stress that, healthcare providers, health departments and epidemiologists lack sufficient resources to build on recent progress. This resource gap increases the likelihood of a prolonged outbreak, putting vulnerable populations such as immunocompromised people in danger of severe complications.
