Lapse in Social Distancing Driving Outbreaks in Midwest and Non-Urban Areas

COVID-19 is surging in many non-urban areas across the US, the latest data show. Less adherence to social distancing guidelines and transmission by younger asymptomatic people have been two driving forces of the outbreaks. Social gatherings at bars and restaurants and other settings have contributed greatly to the increase in cases in many parts of the country. Younger people are more likely than other age groups to engage in these social gatherings.
