Today’s Infectious Disease News (8/13/21)

The FDA and CDC officially authorized a third dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine for immunocompromised people, including many transplant recipients, cancer patients, and people living with HIV or who are on immunosuppressant medications. These individuals may not have developed a robust immune response to the vaccine. The groups eligible for the booster shot account for a small percentage of the US population.
