Respiratory Virus Activity Picks Up Across the US

Flu, COVID-19 and RSV continue to surge throughout the country. The viruses have converged to form a trifecta of winter illness as the New Year approaches. Hospitalization rates for RSV, which stands for respiratory syncytial virus, remain high. In a typical year, the predominantly winter virus hospitalizes 58,000-80,000 children under 5 years old and between 60,000-120,000 seniors. Hospitalizations for flu and COVID-19 have risen steadily over the last several weeks. Over the last seven days, COVID-19 hospitalizations have spiked by 10.4% and deaths have ticked up by 3.4%.
