A CDC program that offers COVID-19 vaccines to uninsured and underinsured Americans will end in August. The Bridge Access Program, which distributes vaccines at no charge to eligible adults, will wind down ahead of the release of the updated vaccines this fall. After providing over 1.4 million COVID-19 vaccines since September of 2023, the program will end due to lack of funding.
While the majority of private insurance plans cover the vaccine, the end of the Bridge Access Program leaves 25-30 million adults without access. In addition, many people with private insurance have plans that do not pay for the full cost of the vaccine.
