Cantaloupe tainted with Salmonella has sickened at least 230 Americans in 38 states. Three infections have been reported in New Jersey. The dangerous bacteria has hospitalized about 100 people since October 16. Last week, health authorities confirmed the third death of the outbreak. A number of brands have issued recalls for whole and precut cantaloupes. Mixed fruit products that contain the precut cantaloupe. These brands include:

The number of reported illnesses has doubled in the last week, and cases popped up in four new states. Health departments urge citizens not to eat cantaloupe if you don’t know its brand/origin. This includes cantaloupe from restaurants.
