STIs Surging in the US

The United States has seen a dramatic rise of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) over the last decade. In 2023, the US set a new record high for STIs for the eighth consecutive year. The US has experienced an especially big spike in Syphilis cases, recording a 74% jump in cases in five years. Public health resources for STI prevention, treatment and testing have been consistently underfunded across the country. At a time when investment in public health services is more important than ever, many states have actually slashed funding for resources vital to the health of millions of Americans.
