COVID-19 cases and Deaths Decline, But Threat New Variants Remains
COVID-19 cases and deaths in most regions of the world have declined significantly in recent weeks. The latest World Health Organization report showed a 16% drop in cases from the week prior. This is welcome news after the surge in cases early this summer.
At the same time, the original vaccines no longer provide optimal protection against the highly contagious BA.4 and BA.5 variants. The FDA and CDC encourages people over the age of 12 to receive the new bivalent booster, which is specifically designed to fight these variants.
