COVID-19 Activity Still High Throughout the US
COVID-19 activity continues to increase in many areas of the US. Wastewater testing shows the virus remains at a hight level across the country, with the highest levels in the southern region. Although COVID activity has begin to decline in the West, levels are trending upward in the Midwest, South and Northeast. Hospitalizations from COVID-19 remain high, particularly for older adults and children less han 2 years old. Deaths from the virus remain low, especially compared to previous years.

FDA Approves Novavax’s COVID Vaccine
The Food and Drug Administration authorized Novavax’s updated COVID-19 vaccine, which is designed to target the latest variants of the virus. As COVID continues to surge throughout most of the country, the CDC recommends that all Americans age 6 months and up get vaccinated. Beyond the current summer surge, winter is expected to bring another wave as it has each year since 2020, which is why health officials say this is a good time to get an updated shot. The Novavax vaccine becomes the third updated vaccine to gain approval.
