Climate Change Linked to Rise in V. Vulnificus Infections
In a new report in the Annals of Internal Medicine, researchers blame warming waters for an uptick in V. vulnificus infections in the Delaware Bay. All 5 of the recent infections referred to in the report occurred in patients who came in contact with water and/or consumed crabs from bay. The bacteria is particularly harmful to people with compromised immune systems, including children and the elderly.
