New Model Simulations Raise Predicted COVID-19 Death Toll
Health officials are warning that a flattening of the COVID curve for the United States does not paint an accurate picture of the reality on the ground throughout most of the country. New data show that a few US metropolitan areas such as New York City, Detroit and New Orleans are making progress lessening new COVID-19 cases, but when these 3 regions are parsed from the rest of country, a clear upward trajectory emerges. New models predict a continued upward trend in cases for most of the country in the coming weeks. The historically conservative model favored by the Trump administration has doubled its projection to 135,000 deaths.
