Avian Flu Confirmed in More US Dairy Cows

The USDA has reported two additional Avian Flu outbreaks: one in Michigan and the other in Idaho. The virus has now been confirmed in 69 dairy cow herds across 9 states. In Michigan, one of the states hit hardest by the disease, reported an outbreak in Ottawa County, bringing the state’s total to 23 outbreaks in 10 counties.

New RSV Vaccine Approved by FDA

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Moderna’s RSV vaccine for people ages 60 years and older. There are now three RSV vaccines approved by the FDA. A large clinical trial which included over 37,000 adults showed that the vaccine was 78.7% effective at preventing severe symptoms: specifically lower respiratory tract disease. Researchers found the vaccine to be safe, with few side effects. The common side effects were injection-site pain, fatigue, and myalgia (muscle aches and pains).
