IDSA and HIV Medicine Association Publish Guidelines for Reopening Country
The Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA) and HIV Medicine Association National have published set of guidelines for the US to safely “reopen”. The document includes a number of recommendations for improving testing, monitoring and public health infrastructure. Key components of the guidance include:
Enhancing the capacities of the public health system and workforce
Increasing the availability of rapid diagnostic tests and new technological tools for contact tracing
Scaling up COVID-19 testing and utilize rapid diagnostic tests everywhere in the US
Creating a unified strategy to improve the ability of supply chains to meet a growing demand for swabs, personal protective equipment and other resources
Establishing a “national multiagency, public/private task force” comprised of Health and Human Services, CDC members, and federal, academic and industry representatives
Guaranteeing federal funding for the implementation of a strong COVID-19 surveillance program as well as for providing tests to uninsured people
Mandating that health insurers cover COVID-19 testing
