Pregnant Mothers with COVID-19 Face Greater Risks of Poor Outcomes

A multi-country study recently published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) found that pregnant women infected with COVID-19 face greater risks for a range of poor outcomes than those who are not infected. Expectant mothers with COVID-19 are at an elevated risk for complications such as preeclampsia and ICU admissions. These women also are 22 times as likely to die than pregnant women who were not infected. The study also found that the babies are more likely to be born prematurely and at a low birth rate.
