Over 50 Children Infected in Ohio Measles Outbreak
Health officials have confirmed 59 cases of measles in Ohio. None of the infected children are fully vaccinated against measles. Fifty-six of the children had not received any dose of the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, while 3 had received just one of the two doses. Experts recommend that kids receive their first dose between the ages of 12 and 15 months and the second between 4 and 6 years old. Two doses are 97% protective against infection if you are exposed to the virus. A dozen of the Ohio cases were infants younger than 12 months old, 42 cases were between 1-5 years old and 5 were between the ages of 6-17. To date 23 children in this outbreak have been hospitalized.
