Study Finds Paxlovid to be Safe and Effective for Treating COVID-19 in Pregnant Patients

A clinical study found Paxlovid to be safe and effective for treating pregnant patients with COVID-19. Paxlovid has been a popular antiviral drug for helping patients fight COVID-19 due to its strong record of safety and efficacy. However, this new study was among the first to evaluate the medication in people who are pregnant. Of the 47 women who participated in the research, 96% completed their Paxlovid regimen with no significant complications for the mother or baby. While more research is needed to reaffirm the results of the study, these findings are encouraging, as pregnancy is associated with an elevated risk of developing severe COVID-19. Several medical associations, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine recommend the medication for pregnant patients.
