Global COVID-19 Cases and Deaths Trend Downward After Summer Surge
The rate of COVID-19 deaths continue to fall globally. Cases are also trending downward and are either dropping or stable in every world region. Public health officials caution these numbers may in part be due to countries changing testing guidelines. Nevertheless this is a positive sign that COVID-19 cases are waning, at least temporarily, after the summer surge in cases. Epidemiologists and infectious disease experts expect COVID-19 cases to fluctuate throughout the year and are anticipating a spike in flu and COVID-19 activity this winter. As people start to gather indoors more frequently in the coming weeks, this is a good time to get the flu vaccine and the updated COVID-19 booster.
