Senator King Calls for More Research into Universal Flu Vaccine
Senator Angus King (I-Maine) has introduced legislation to double the federal government’s investment in flu and vaccine research. The bill, called the Flu Vaccine Act, allocates $1 Billion for National Institutes of Health toward the research and development of a universal flu vaccine. This type of vaccine would be more protective against a wide range of flu strains. King and other Senators have requested a briefing from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases on the progress of current research on universal flu vaccines.
