Dr. Jeffrey Sumerson is from the South Jersey local area and received his medical degree from the Thomas Jefferson Medical College and completed both his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. He went on to his Infectious Disease fellowship at Cooper University Hospital and received the “Golden Apple” teaching award for excellence in teaching resident trainees and students.

Dr. Sumerson serves in a leadership position for Virtua as Chief of the Section of Infectious Disease on the Virtua West Jersey Medical staff, and is active on multiple medical committees including the Virtua Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Information Technology Committee, VADD (venous access) Commmittee as well as the Quality Committee of the Virtua Medical group. He has been named a “Top Doctor” by SJ magazine and is Board Certified in Infectious Diseases and a member of the Infectious Disease Society of America.
