The measles outbreak centered in Texas continues to spread, as state health officials confirmed 18 new infections since the last update less than a week ago. According to the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS), 327 cases have been confirmed in the state since late January. All but 2 of the patients sickened in Texas are unvaccinated or did not know their vaccination status. To date, 40 of the patients have required hospitalization. One child has died.
In New Mexico counties bordering Texas, at least 43 people have suffered measles infections linked to the West Texas outbreaks. Oklahoma has now has 7 confirmed cases connected to the Texas outbreaks. Together the three states have recorded 379 confirmed cases, with more expected in the coming days and weeks.
