Measles Cases Reported in 17 States

More measles infections were reported this week, as outbreaks pop up throughout the country. This year 17 states have confirmed one or more measles infection. This week both California and the city of Chicago reported their third cases of 2024. In January Philadelphia and South Jersey were were among the first areas in the US to report a measles illness in the new year. Since then, a steady stream of infections have sickened at least 45 Americans, mostly unvaccinated children. Measles is dangerous infection for those who are not vaccinated. The virus hospitalizes 1 out of every 5 people it infects.
