Dr. Topiel founded Infectious Disease Physicians in in 1984. He graduated NYU Medical School and completed Residency training in Internal Medicine and Fellowship training in Infectious Disease at the George Washington University. He has served as Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Virtua Memorial Hospital and Chief of the Section of Infectious Diseases.

Dr. Topiel is Infection Control Officer at Virtua and Chairman of the Infection Control Committee as the lead physician in preventing infections in the Health system and is a Fellow in the Society of Healthcare Epidemiology of America as well as a member of IDSA. He has led Virtua to receiving the NJ Hospital Association Award for Quality Excellence in 2018 for reducing the incidence of Clostridium difficile infections at Virtua and received physician awards for quality achievement. His experience also includes caring for anthrax patients during the outbreak in 2001. He has served as a media expert on the Today show, Dateline, local television stations and print news providing information on influenza, Lyme disease, anthrax, tick control and Clostridium difficile.

During his career, Dr. Topiel has been named as “Top Doc” in Philadelphia magazine, New Jersey Magazine, Castle Connelly Surveys, Inside Jersey Magazine and Consumers Choice awards.
