FDA May Approve New COVID-19 Vaccines This Week

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) may approve updated COVID vaccines as soon as this week. Two of the updated vaccines, manufactured by Moderna and Pfizer, are expected to be available shortly after receiving FDA approval. The two mRNA vaccines are tailored to target the latest variants of the virus, making them more effective than the currently available versions of the shot. A third vaccine option developed by Novavax will become available at a later date because it uses protein-based technology that takes longer to manufacture. US health officials recommend that all people age 6 months and older to receive the updated vaccine.
