Carrots contaminated with E. coli have hospitalized at least 15 people across 18 states, including New Jersey. One person has died. Many popular brands of bagged carrots have been recalled after being linked to the illnesses. The carrots were produced by Grimmway Farms and distributed under many different brand names, including Marketside, Nature’s Promise, O-Organics, Trader Joe’s and Wegmans, and others.

The affected products are unlikely to still be on store shelves but some homes may have the products in their refrigerators. The CDC recommends that you check your refrigerator for the recalled products. If found the products should immediately be thrown away or returned to the store for a refund. The health agency also people to wash any surfaces or equipment that the carrots touched.
