States Aim to Ramp Up Contact Tracing to Fight COVID-19

Massachusetts and other states are hoping to ramp up efforts to use contact tracing, one of the best tools available to stop the spread of infectious diseases. The success of this strategy depends on widespread testing, which is still in short supply in the US. Massachusetts, in collaboration with the non-profit Partners in Health, is hiring 1,000 contact tracers. The investigators will first contact a person who tested positive and compile a list of every person who came in close contact with them for longer than 15 minutes. These individuals will then be asked about symptoms and the people with whom they have come in close contact.
