Measles Outbreaks Across the US Raise the Alarm about the Disease’s Resurgence
In 2019 the US has experienced a major uptick in measles cases, prompting the CDC to reemphasize the need for widespread immunization. While children are the most at-risk group, the agency warns that people who were born after 1956 also face an increased risk of being exposed to the disease and that these individuals should check with their doctor about receiving a booster shot. Others with an elevated risk for contracting measles include health care workers, college students, people planning on traveling internationally, and those living in an area with an active measles outbreak.
