Measles Outbreak Growing in Central Jersey
Three new cases of measles have been confirmed in Passaic, New Jersey, bringing the total number of recently infected people to 18. Officials are urging residents in and around Passaic to call their doctor right away if they develop the following symptoms: rash, high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes.

Experts Call for More Research on AFM
The recent uptick in Acute Flaccid Myelitis (AFM) cases has prompted health experts to call for more research into the causes of the disease. Although AFM remains rare, its crippling symptoms, which include severe muscle weakness in the extremities, slurred speech and facial/eyelid drooping, can render children permanently paralyzed or impaired. Health professionals say that more funding is necessary to close the large gap in understanding of AFM.
