More Raw Milk Products Recalled Due to Avian Flu Contamination

Avian flu (bird flu) has been detected in more raw milk products in California, this time from Valley Milk Simply Bottled. The company is the second raw milk producer in the state to undergo a recall due to bird flu in recent weeks. All of Raw Farm‘s milk and cream offerings (produced between 11/9-11/27) were recalled after multiple rounds of tests found bird flu in the products. The new recall was prompted after the California Department of Food and Agriculture confirmed the positive tests through its bulk milk testing program.

Flu Activity Reaches High Levels in New Jersey, 5 Other States

Flu activity has surged to high levels in New Jersey and 5 other states according to the latest update from the CDC. Other states with lower levels of flu have seen an uptick in activity. Emergency room visits and hospitalizations for flu continue to increase, as do doctor’s office visits for “flulike illness”. Older Americans are the hardest hit age group in terms of flu hospitalization rates. Two children have died from the virus so far this season.
