An analysis of 25 studies on long COVID showed that getting vaccinated significantly lowers the risk of developing long COVID. Long COVID is a post-COVID-19 disease that can include a wide array of symptoms, which occur four or more weeks after an initial infection. These symptoms can persist for many weeks, months or years after the initial COVID-19 infection goes away. Long COVID symptoms can be neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, or musculoskeletal.
The meta-analysis of the more than two dozen studies, published in the Journal of Infection, found that COVID-19 vaccination reduced a person’s risk for long COVID, especially if the person received two doses. Two COVID-19 doses lowered the odds of developing long COVID by 24 percent, while one dose reduced the odds by 15 percent.
