Nearly 1 in 10 women infected with COVID-19 during pregnancy develop long COVID, according to a new study. Prior research has demonstrated that pregnant women face unique risks for complications from COVID. Pregnant individuals have a higher chance of delivering preterm or experiencing a stillbirth. The virus also raises the chances of hospitalization or death. This new study was the first one to investigate the health outcomes of long COVID for pregnant women and their babies. The researchers found that 9.3% of people who developed COVID during pregnancy suffered persistent symptoms at least 6 months after their initial infection. The most common symptoms included gastrointestinal problems, fatigue and being unusually drained by everyday activities.
