The FDA is warning Americans about a surge in health issues arising from med spas and IV/hydration clinics. Many med spas and IV clinics have been found to use unsafe and unproven treatments. Some med spas mix products inappropriately and with improper sterilization, leading to a surge of infections across the country. Emergency department and infectious disease physicians have reported a spike in injuries and bacterial infections from these clinics. In addition to risky treatments, investigations have revealed that many procedures are done by employees unqualified to perform them. Health officials and representatives of med spas alike advise consumers to use caution when selecting and visiting a these establishments. Many of the businesses employ unlicensed workers to administer unapproved treatments.
