A survey of healthcare professionals revealed that supply chain shortages have worsened patient care and increased administrative burden. The majority of survey respondents said that supply chain shortages have negatively effected patient care. Six out of every ten healthcare workers reported that more than 20 drugs and equipment were in short supply over the previous six months. Roughly 3 out of 4 respondents believe that these shortfalls harmed quality of care in surgery and anesthetics. Approximately half (49%) of respondents reported that treatments or surgeries had been postponed. Nearly one in three healthcare workers said that low stock of a medication prevented them from administering the recommended treatment for their patient. Twenty-one percent of survey respondents reported that the patient received a suboptimal medication for their condition.
