Split-Dosing of COVID-19 Vaccines is No Different than Normal Dose in Terms of Effectiveness or Safety
A new study finds that split dosing of the COVID-19 vaccine, due to patient concerns about allergies, is not inferior in terms of safety or effectiveness. While anaphylactic (severe) reactions from the vaccine are extremely rare, up to 2% of people receiving the vaccine have experienced mild allergic reactions or sensitivities. The study was one of the first to investigate the safety and effectiveness of split-dosing. The encouraging results may provide an alternative way for people with allergy concerns to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The researchers explained, “The split vaccine dosing-induced increase in receptor binding domain and spike protein 1 antibody expression is noninferior to [that with] conventional dosing”.
