Uganda Ebola Outbreak Continues to Spread as Health Official Confirm Total 131 Cases
The Ebola outbreak in Uganda continues to spread, as health officials work to contain the virus. The latest government report confirmed 21 new cases and 18 new deaths. The first cluster of cases was recognized in the Mudende district by the country’s health authorities. Since then the virus has infected dozens of people in and around Kampala. The outbreak in the capital city began when a man seeking treatment at a clinic came into contact with others during his visit. Most of the initial cases in Kampala were linked the one individual, who later died in the hospital. This outbreak was caused by the Sudan strain of Ebola for which no no proven vaccine has been developed. World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu announced last month that clinical trials on a new vaccine would likely start within weeks.
