CDC Study Investigates Risks of Monkeypox’s Ability to Survive on Surfaces

The CDC conducted a study to investigate how easily Monkeypox can spread via contaminated surfaces. Researchers collected of samples from surfaces in homes of people infected with Monkeypox. The study found that 70% of samples were positive for the virus, but the viruses did not replicate when cultured in the lab. The lack of viable viruses under lab conditions may indicate that the viruses decayed due to cleaning and disinfection in the homes. The researchers emphasize that more research is needed to better understand the risk of this type of surface contamination.
