Monkeypox Surpasses 10,000 cases in Non-Endemic Regions, including the US and Europe

Within two months of the initial outbreak, Monkeypox has infected more than 10,000 people in the US and Europe. Monkeypox spreads primarily through skin-to-skin contact or bodily fluids. Health agencies in the United States have confirmed 929 cases, and this number continues to rise. Monkeypox manifests as variety of symptoms that typically begin within 3 weeks of exposure. These symptoms include fever, headaches, cough, swollen lymph nodes, chills, muscle aches and backache, sore throat and exhaustion. People infected with the virus often develop a rash within a few days of the onset of symptoms. The rash my be located on or near the genitals or anus as well the face, hands, feet or chest. Health officials expect the US to achieve a testing capacity of 60,000 per week by the beginning of August.
