Studies Find No Increase in Stillbirths and Preterm Births During COVID-19
Two major studies found that stillbirths and preterm births did not increase during the COVID-19 pandemic. One study based in England found “no evidence of any increase in stillbirths regionally or nationally during the COVID-19 pandemic in England when compared with the same months in the previous year and despite variable community SARS-CoV-2 incidence rates in different regions”. The other study analyzed data from two Philadelphia hospitals, comparing nearly 3,000 live births from March-June of 2020, to more than 5,000 births from the same time frame in 2018 and 2019.
