The disease can cause a wide range of symptoms, including digestive difficulties, loss of smell or taste, brain fog, and chest pain. Researchers don’t fully understand how the virus causes this mysterious condition. However, a growing body of evidence suggests that long term inflammation and damage to organ systems triggered by COVID-19 plays a major role. Long COVID also increases an individual’s likelihood of developing mood and anxiety issues.
