FDA Authorizes Novavax’s Updated COVID-19 Vaccine

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized the updated version of Novavax’s COVID-19 vaccine, making it the third vaccine option available to Americans. The agency approved updated COVID vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer in August. All people 12 years and older are eligible to receive the shot. According to the Novavax, its updated vaccine will be available as soon as next week. The vaccine is tailored to better protect against the latest COVID variants.

Polio Vaccinations in Gaza Ahead of Schedule

The World Health Organization (WHO) is ahead of schedule in its efforts to vaccinate Gaza children against the dangerous polio virus. In the first two days of the program, the WHO has vaccinated about one-quarter of Gazan children less than 10 years old. The mass vaccination campaign depends on scheduled eight-hour pauses in the conflict, once a day. To reach herd immunity necessary to protect the population from polio, at least 90% of Gazan children will need to receive the vaccine.
