CDC Issues Travel Advisories as Chikungunya Surges in Parts of Asia, South America and Africa

The CDC has issued travel advisories for several countries due to the recent rise in Chikungunya infections. The Chikungunya virus can spread to humans through mosquito bites. The CDC advises US travelers to take precautions when visiting certain parts of Asia, South America and Africa. China’s Guangdong province is among the areas hit hardest by the virus in recent months, with health authorities confirming more than 7,000 infections since June. Other countries named in the CDC travel notice include Kenya, Bolivia, Madagascar, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and Somalia.

Wisconsin Becomes 41st State to Confirm Measles as Cases Continue to Mount

In the CDC’s latest update, 23 additional measles infections were confirmed, raising the US total to 1,356 cases in 2025. This is the highest case count since the year 2000, when the US achieve measles elimination status. Wisconsin recorded its first case of the year, becoming the 41st state to report measles in 2025. Nationwide, 92% of patients were unvaccinated or had unknown vaccination status.
