Eggs Tainted with Salmonella Bacteria Hospitalize 18 People
Eggs contaminated with Salmonella have sickened at least 95 people, 18 of whom have been hospitalized. The tainted eggs were sold by Country Eggs LLC under multiple brand names. Anyone who has the affected products in their refrigerators should throw them away or bring them back to the store for a refund. Salmonella can lead to symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, vomiting, cramps and dehydration. The majority of those infected get better within one week. However, more vulnerable groups such as older adults, young kids and people with weakened immune systems face a greater risk of experiencing severe illness.

Two people died from raw eating oysters containing the flesh-eating bacteria Vibrio vulnificus. The deaths bring the national total to 6 in 2025. Vibrio has infected at least 34 people in the US this year. The oysters were sourced from Louisiana and served in restaurants in multiple states. The 34 illnesses and six fatalities linked to Louisiana oysters make this the worst year for Vibrio infections in the past decade.

CDC Enacts Major Cuts to Food Safety Program
The CDC has scaled back a program that tracks food-borne illnesses. The food safety system, called FoodNet, now requires state health departments to monitor just two types of infections: salmonella and Shiga toxin-producing E. coli – down from 8 pathogens previously required to be tracked. Some experts caution that these changes could make our food supply less safe by compromising our ability to monitor outbreaks and identify evolving food safety issues.
