COVID Activity Continues to Rise in the US

COVID-19 levels continue to rise across the US, the CDC reports. According to the latest data models from the CDC, COVID cases are increasing or likely increasing in every state. Fortunately, emergency room visits remain at low levels. However, emergency room visits spiked by more than 15% from the week prior. Hospitalization rates also remain low, but have ticked up since July. Death rates, which are still low, remain unchanged from the previous week.

Kansas Declares Measles Outbreak Over

Kansas health officials officially declared that the major measles outbreak in the state has ended. The outbreak, which started in late January, sickened at least 87 people in Kansas, 8 of whom were hospitalized. The first Kansas cases stemmed from the even larger Texas outbreak. In Kansas, 80% of measles patients were kids and 90% were unvaccinated.

As the Kansas and Texas outbreaks come to a close, the outbreaks continue to pop up across the country. Wisconsin’s reported 5 more cases this week, raising the state’s total to 14 this year.
