Boar’s Head to Reopen Plant That Caused Listeria Outbreak
Boar’s Head announced it will reopen its Virginia plant that led to last year’s fatal listeria outbreak. The reopening comes amid reports of ongoing food safety violations at three other Boar’s Head plants. Inspectors found multiple violations including mold, condensation in food areas, overflowing trash, fat and meat residue accumulation on walls and equipment, drains clogged with meat scraps, and pools of meat juice. The reports also revealed that staff failed to use proper protective hairnets and aprons.

NYC Legionnaires Disease Outbreak Expands to 90 Cases, 3 Deaths
The legionnaires outbreak in Central Harlem has grown to 90 cases. Three people have died. The infections are caused by cooling towers that became contaminated with the dangerous bacteria Legionella. Legionnaires’ disease is a kind of pneumonia which can caused fever, cough, headaches and other symptoms. If not treated promptly, legionnaires can cause to severe problems such as lung failure or even death.
