COVID Infections Trending Upward in Many States
COVID-19 cases are on the rise in 27 states, especially in the South and West. The summer surge in cases comes at a time when the American population has lower immunity against the virus. Many Americans have not had a booster shot for over a year, and “natural” immunity from prior infection has waned. Fortunately, hospitalization rates remain relatively low for now. If you’re older, pregnant, live with a health condition that increases your risk of illness, or have a weakened immune system, you may want to talk to your doctor about getting the vaccine.

Person with Measles Travels Through LAX Airport, Stays at LA Hilton
An individual with a confirmed measles infection travelled through Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in early July, health officials report. The international traveller also stayed at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport. The individual arrived at LAX on July 5 and was a guest at the hotel between 7:30 pm July 5 and 1 pm on July 7.
Anyone who was in these locations on these days may have been exposed to the virus. The health department advises anyone who may have been exposed to watch for possible measles symptoms for three weeks. Signs of a measles infection may include high fever, red, watery eyes.
