Flesh-Eating Bacteria Kills Four People in Florida

Florida has seen a surge of flesh-eating bacteria infections in the past year. In 2025, the flesh-eating bacteria Vibrio vulnificus has killed 4 people in the US. In 2024, 19 people died in the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

For most healthy people, symptoms of vibrio infections are mild, and can include vomiting, diarrhea, fever, chills and disorientation. Individuals with weakened immune systems face a risk of more serious problems such as skin lesions, limb amputation or death.

Salmonella Outbreak Tied to Geckos Sickens 49 People

At least 49 people have become sick from pet Geckos infected with salmonella bacteria. Of these patients, 9 have been hospitalized. So far, 27 states have reported at least one case. According to the CDC, the true number of infections likely much higher since many cases go unreported. You can become ill from handling infected pet Geckos or objects in their environment, and then touching your mouth.
