South Dakota Reports First Measles Infection as Disease Spreads Nationwide
South Dakota is the latest state to confirm a measles cases in 2025, as the outbreaks continue to pop up around the country. The infected South Dakota person appears to have developed the infection while traveling abroad.
In West Texas, the epicenter of the this year’s largest outbreak, confirmed 4 more cases this week bringing the state’s total 742 infections. Oklahoma and New Mexico, which have ongoing outbreaks linked to the Texas infections, reported 1 and 2 additional cases respectively in this week’s update.

USDA Reports Another Bird Flu Outbreak in Arizona
The USDA has reported Arizona’s third Avian Flu (also known as bird flu) outbreak of the year at a major egg farm. This outbreak impacted nearly 1.4 million birds at the farm. Since mid May, Avian Flu has ravaged three of Arizona’s biggest producers of eggs, causing the death of over 5 million birds. Nationally more than 174 million poultry birds have been killed due to the virus recent years.
