Contaminated Pistachio Cream Sickens 4 People In New Jersey and Minnesota
At least four people across New Jersey and Minnesota have fallen ill after eating pistachio cream tainted with salmonella bacteria. One of the individuals was hospitalized. Laboratory tests on the Emek brand pistachio cream revealed it contains salmonella, which can cause severe illness. Three of the people ate the cream at the same restaurant. The CDC advised grocery stores, restaurants and distributors that purchased the product to refrain selling or serving specific lots of the product. The FDA is investigating whether additional lots of the cream or products produced by Emek are contaminated.

As Measles Spreads, CDC Advises Summer Camps to Stay Vigilant
Amid the continued measles outbreaks nationwide, the CDC advises summer camps to check for proof of immunity against measles for all campers and staffers. Documenting measles immunity status helps health officials respond swiftly to contain an outbreak. Specifically, this information allows health departments to know which individuals should be offered a vaccine or antibody injections in the event of an outbreak.
In addition to sharing the CDC’s checklist with its members, the American Camp Association released guidelines, recommending that camp management “Decide if you will allow unvaccinated campers and staff at your camp. Understand the risk if you do accept a camper or staff member who has not been immunized for measles”.
