FDA Announces New Policy Prohibiting COVID Vaccine for Most People Under Age 65

The FDA announced it will revoke approval for the seasonal COVID vaccine for most Americans. The health agency will limit approval for the vaccine to people aged 65+ and people 6 months and older who are vulnerable to infection.

The top US pediatrics organization warned that this decision by the FDA s approach will reduce access to COVID vaccines. “If the vaccine were no longer available or covered by insurance, it will take the choice away from families who wish to protect their children from COVID-19, especially among families already facing barriers to care,” said Dr. Sean O’Leary from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Texas Measles Outbreak Grows to 722 Infections

The measles outbreak centered in Texas has grown to 722 cases. The ongoing outbreak, which started in February, is the largest in the country, which is in the midst of the worst year for measles since 2000, when the disease was declared eliminated from the US. The CDC has confirmed over 1,000 cases to date, and 3 deaths. The US remains on track to potentially lose its measles elimination status.
