Trump Administration Proposes Plan to Slash Public Health Budget

The Trump administration has proposed a plan to reduce the government’s budget for public health by almost one-third. o cut nearly a third, and to cancel or downsize many vital programs. Budgets for the NIH and CDC could be lowered by more than 40 percent.

The plan would end multiple CDC programs that focus on chronic disease prevention, HIV/AIDS, gun violence, minority health, and injury prevention. The administration fired many employees working on these programs on April 1. If enacted, these spendings cuts may lower access to essential health services and impede research on major health issues facing the US.

Yellow Fever Outbreaks Prompts Public Health Emergency Declaration in Colombia I

Colombia officially declared a health emergency dude to the continued spread of yellow fever in the country. Cases have occurred in nine districts and deaths have been reported in eight districts. The health ministry advised all residents 9 months and older to get vaccinated against the virus. In March 2025, the Pan American Health Organization issued an alert warning of the increase in yellow fever cases in the Americas, including Brazil, Bolivia, Peru and Columbia. The US CDC recently published a level 2 travel notice for yellow fever in these regions.
